From the 16th century to 20th century, frocks applied to women dresses. In early ages it was used as a comfortable garment for wear in home but it is becoming more fashionable day by day Now, it is also used as a formal wear. 

Frock is also a traditional dress worn by women consisting of skirts with an attached bodice it is wear as casual or formal also.

The word frock is most popular in in the UK than in a US.
